A short time ago, we introduced the opening of the OC store in London. No wonder then that we really wanted to visit their stores in the US. We had the chance to pop into the Opening Ceremony in Soho (NYC). To be quite honest, we were really disappointed by the overall arrangement of the store, the way high-end clothes were displayed: we actually felt like we were in the sort of frippery, except that the panel of clothes was really modern and sought-after…

Then, we decided to check out the Opening Ceremony flagship in LA (451 N. La Cienega Boulevard, West Hollywood). It turned out that the place is no ordinary boutique, it’s 10,000 square feet of Charlie Chaplin’s old dance studio. What’s coolest about the space is that it’s so big that each designer basically gets their own space within the store and the customer can move from room to room checking out each designer. Alexander Wang got his own room, as to Band of Outsiders, there is a particular lego-style corner showcasing some exclusive pieces on the second floor too. You just have to check it out if you’re staying in LA, even more if your hotel is in West Hollywood. Link

With campaigning for the 2012 general election well under way, Downtown for Democracy, the political action committee established during the 2004 elections, is back. Aimed at motivating and engaging the creative community to political action, the organization has begun this cycle’s crusade with the publication of a 75-page civics primer. D4D and OHWOW Present: The Pocket Guide to Politics breaks down and clarifies the complicated, and some might say confusing, workings of American representative government. Available on Opening Ceremony for 20 bucks.

Opening Ceremony’s lookbook for Fall/Winter 2012 is modeled by boxer Eric Ramos and displays how easy it is to dress for next winter. Traditional cold weather fabrics like wool and flanel in olives burgundys and greys, with camo prints and “urban-hiking” boots to add that little hipness. I feel that the inspiration is still very military with the blackwatch trench and the cargo pants. Note the very nice looking boots on the picture hereabove, which could be a great addition for an extreme winter! Full lookbook after the break!

Somehow, making a spectacular appearance at OC’s fashion night out celebrations, miss piggy found the time to collaborate on a muppet x oc collection (of sweaters, hoodies and tees). These muppet-print pieces ($230) are “more entertaining than humanly possible!” though. Animal,  fozzie, kermit, miss piggy and gonzo are all wearing opening ceremony collection on their custom sweaters! Must say we liked the idea…

Shot by frequent Rodarte collaborator Autumn de Wilde, the Rodarte for Opening Ceremony FW 2011 lookbook featuring twins Gwen and Donna Loos is of a rare beauty ! The collection itself was inspired by the Nordic romance of Scandinavia and mixes silk dresses with touches of ruffle, lambskin stripped leather skirts, printed shirting and uncommon Fair Isle-patterned knits. A soft palette of tones like mint, blush and ochre dominates both the men’s and women’s looks. View the breathtaking collection hereunder and check the pre-sale HERE !

I love a basic sweater and I always think that if there is a graphic print or logo or text, it must have a meaning. It has to say something, should it be understood only by the discerning few. With this sweater, Rodarte brings back the charming series of super-soft Radarte tees and sweatshirts in exclusivity for Opening Ceremony. The line is the east-coast version of American Apparel : playful, cozy basics that say “I know how to dress”.
