“Good design for Braun means creating products that are highly functional, intuitive to use and enduring,” said the label’s head of design, Professor Oliver Grabes. With second, 60-minute and 24-hour chronograph dials and quartz crystal movement, this exquisite timepiece exceeds the brand’s company values with panache. Simple, functional (Dieter Rams‘ signature), black design: ideal for a day-to-day use! Available on Mr Porter
When I saw this one of a kind timepiece by Harry Winston for the first time, I was just speechless! Then I realized I could not even tell what time it shows. Give it a try and share with us! Anyway, I guess that was not Harry Winston‘s main concern when they designed the 130 unique Harry Winston Opus Xiii watch in collaboration with Ludovic Ballouard. With fifty-nine pivoting minute hands, eleven rotating triangles to mark the hours, and a sliding trap door, the Harry Winston Opus XIII Watch isn’t the craziest watch we’ve seen — but it’s close! Price is indecent, you don’t want to know.
New York City streetwear favorite Supreme continues to drop some amazing stuff : as part of the Spring/Summer 2013 collection, the label teams up with iconic watchmaker Rolex for a special collaboration piece. The two put together a custom version of the Rolex Submariner watch, featuring a supreme-twist, including a bold “FUCK EM” stamped on the face, and Supreme’s signature box-logo branded on the back. The two do very well merging the both worlds, mixing premium streetwear with class of designer accessories, as everyone knows the Sub has been popping everywhere these past months and embodies this sort of menswear trend on its own !
To my opinion, Jaeger-LeCoultre Master Grande Tradition Gyrotourbillon 3 Jubilee is one of the top 3 most impressive watches presented during the 23rd Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie ‘SIHH’ 2013. Described to be a new pinnacle of the watchmaking art, the Jaeger-LeCoultre gyrotourbillon 3, which is part of the Jaeger-LeCoultre’s Jubilee Collection ‘Tribute to Antoine LeCoultre’ which marks watchmaker’s 180-year anniversary, this timekeeper is an authentic 21st century watchmaking sensation that now appears for the first time with a flying tourbillion, a blued gold balance and a spherical-shaped balance spring. Limited to just 75 examples, it boasts an aesthetic directly inspired by the pocket watches produced by the Manufacture during the 19th century… Priceless!
At last Baselworld, in celebration of the 180th anniversary of Longines, the Saint-Imier brand revealed a number of attractive vintage inspired timepieces. With its characteristic single push-piece, this column-wheel round case watch is specially designed to mark the brand’sanniversary as a reminder of the first chronographs produced by Longines from 1878 on. Thus, as trendy as vintage inspired timepieces are right now, this limited edition pink gold watch (that comes with a brown alligator strap) by Longines will surely be a success! (Only 180 pieces at about $10,000)
This year’s SIHH saw several big(ish) announcements for Audemars Piguet (namely a ceramic version of the Royal Oak Offshore diver) but the most impressive watch of the 2012 AP SIHH collection, we’ve yet to show you in detail. We are talking about the Audemars Piguet Openworked Extra-Thin Royal Oak Tourbillon. It is just sick. This is a dream of any watch enthusiasts, especially for me! The caliber is completley hand finished and shows the power reserve on the rear. It is, quite honestly, just an incredible example of watchmaking and worth seeking out if not to purchase, just to view as a lover of mechanical watchmaking. The Openworked Extra-Thin Royal Oak Tourbillon will be made in only 40 pieces worldwide and retail for $353,600… Link
The Junghans Max Bill watch is a timeless classic design from 1962. This elegant watch was designed by Max Bill in 1962 and has become an icon of modern design. This is an authentic edition, made by the original manufacturer Junghans which is sold online on Timefy (link) along with other classic models from the same brand. A nice idea for next week-end’s father’s day !
The 602 Chrono of Jacob Jensen presents a large display and is obviously related to all Jacob Jensen design universe. The generous display of Ø37mm with a 3 circles chronometer function gives this watch a substantial minimalist and distinguished look, close to what Uniform Wares does with the 300 series! Available at 289€ on Timefy.
Can it honestly go better than this one? A Glashütte Original Senator Meissen Tourbillon ?! A 40mm rose gold case, a hand-painted dial on a porcelain ceramic (which they say isn’t influence by the earth’s gravitational field) cooked two times and inspected so the dial is absolutely perfect. The tourbillon itself is isolated in a ceramic box and can rotate 360 degrees to compensate the gravity. It’s the product of three year of research to get that amazing design. The power reserve is 48 hours so you can switch back to a more conventional timepiece and not look like a million bucks !
How can it get better than the Patek Philippe Calatrava ? Created in 1932, “it is the result of an avant-garde philosophy of aesthetics that showcases sleek lines and subtle elegance; the collection expresses artistic ingenuity at its very finest. The endearing quality of the design reflects the relentless pursuit of perfection that has always been at the core of Patek Philippe’s mission.” Those are the objective words one can use to describe the Calatrava. But it’s hard not to speak with your heart when seeing this masterpiece. It is the most beautiful timepiece I’ve ever seen. It’s minimal face and fantastic proportions make it an instant object of desire. 5119R-001. Grab that reference and start saving each and every cents. The Patek Philippe Calatrava is worth all the money in the world.
