Introducing Karuizawa Whisky

Karuizawa is Japan’s smallest whisky distillery, producing just 150,000 litres of spirit a year. It is situated to the west of the town of Karuizawa, which is a popular mountain resort for Tokyo highflyers. Karuizawa whisky is quite rare, due to the low production capacity and the distillery prides itself on its use of traditional whisky making methods.

Note for the connoisseurs, let’s be more precise: Karuizawa distillery actually imports Golden Promise barley from Scotland, which was historically the most common barley used there and matures their whisky mostly in sherry casks imported from Spain. Besides, the water used in production has flowed through or over the volcanic lava rock and soil that surround the distillery, giving it a unique quality! Unfortunately it appears that they stop the production in 2000 so the bottle are becoming very rare… Buy here for the 1981 Vintage model or just try the Karuizawa 12 years old. Le Camion Qui Fume | Food Truck

Gourmet food trucks’ popularity across the Atlantic is constantly growing and Paris is no exception. Chef Kristin of Le Camion Qui Fume decided to leave her native California to train at the School of French Cuisine Ferrandi in Paris. During her stay, she noticed a few gaps in the Paris food scene and decided to open Le Camion Qui Fume. The success is such that they can’t stay at the same place one day after another and almost never tell where the truck is going to stop. People are waiting at least an hour to get their hamburgers… And it’s -10 degrees outside these days.  Read the rest of this entry »

Nikon D800 and its 36 Megapixels

In the “megapixel rush”, I guess Nikon just gained on Canon with their recently unleashed monster full frame camera, the 36 megapixel D800 ($3,000). The new full frame FX camera will shoot enormous 7360 x 4912 resolution photos (you can print like huge photographs with this kind of resolution) and will feature 1080p video at 30, 25, and 24 fps, 51 point AF, CF and SD memory card storage, and USB 3.0 connectivity. And for the sharpest image possible, Nikon will also have a D800E which removes the anti aliasing filter… Stay tuned to hear about Canon’s reply, maybe a new 5D Mark III! Le New Black: First Online Fashion Fair

Le New Black is actually the first ever commercial online fashion fair dedicated to Brands to sell their collection to the best stores; and to Stores, as buyers, to purchase next season’s collections online. I had the chance to meet Le New Black team in their wonderful offices in Marais in Paris to learn more about their project and how they differentiate themselves from other physical fashion fairs such as the (Capsule) show or the Who’s next.

Among its subscribers Le New Black counts the most influencial concept stores such as the Dover Street Market or Colette, and also powerful department stores like Harvey Nichols. Why? Unlike the classic fashion fairs: as a brand, you can display your products all over the year on a single platform and benefit from an audience of already selected buyers. As a buyer, it obviously allows you not to travel all around the world to select a brand or a collection. Find a list of their brands (Études, Surface to Air, Tigersushi, etc…) after the jump and we’ll soon have Reda from Le New Black tell us more about the philosophy behind their project!
