I’m dying for this Satchel from Filson right now… There’s nothing else like it. Trust me, I have been looking for a satchel-like briefcase like this one for months! I guess I eventually found the one! The craftsmanship is inspiring. Constructed from whole pieces of our vegetable tanned Bridle Leather that’s cut from the strongest part of the hide, this is a briefcase built to last a lifetime. Assembled with heavy bonded nylon thread, these are handmade in small batches in Filson‘s Seattle factory. Though this is is a real investment (the Filson Leather field Satchel actually costs $795), I’m sure it’s worth it!! Hope (when I get mine :-)) it will carry my essentials through the rest of my time on this earth and will probably do the same for my kids. Available on Need Supply!Read More
Yves Saint Laurent Tribute brown leather pumps
The tribute is a classic, I insist, an essential of YSL’s shoes line! Why ? The curb of the heel is elegant, the silhouette is pure, the toe is sort of aggressive… To me, this pair of shoes embodies the personality of a liberated, yet amazingly elegant woman! Remember that talented Yves Saint Laurent wanted his brand to epitomize the reactionary spirit of the Paris left bank (he was the first famous designer to open a store on this side of the Seine), what to say then about Yves Saint Laurent Tribute pumps (565€) ? That being said, no wonder this item is one of the best seller masterpieces of French mythical fashion house.Read More
I shouldn’t have stop at Kitsuné‘s shop Rue de Richelieu in Paris last weekend. Everything there is so tempting. Look this shawl collar cardigan for example. You could chose dozens of other brands but unsurprisingly, Kitsuné makes THE one that is hard to resist to. Flawless with a cable knit body, crushed leather buttons and tight ribbing on the cuffs and waist. With a thick shawl collar, this golden brown (photo is unfair believe me) cardigan is definitely a winter essential. Wear as a jacket alternative now or underneath a winter coat when the mercury drops. Now you’re ready for winter.Read More
Many of you now know that I suffer from frequent fashion obsessions that I only care with an extremely dangerous diet that consists in not eating for a month or two so that I can afford the garment in question. The danger with my latest obsession so far is that I’d surely die before sparing enough money to even afford one sleeve of it. I mean one sleeve of a Burberry Prorsum tailored camel coat. Or a Burberry London one. They are just THE piece to get for FW 2011. It would keep me warm while going to work suited up. I need one. Diet mode on.Read More
I believe this is an essential. Sure, it has to be worn with a little extra of self-confidence and not everybody can wear some skinny leather pants. But look at it ! I give it a ten out of ten on a sexyness scale. Pair it with an oversized white shirt and to me it’s just perfect ! It has a strong rock connotaion but can be worn very chic with some Louboutin/Jimmy Choo high-heels and a minimal coat… Leather loves the leopard print so the slim leather pants will be perfect with leo ballerines or a leopard-printed shirt ! McQueen, Martin Margiela, Alexander Wang, Acne and many others have some awesome proposals so check out our selection and inspiration streetstyle shots hereafter !Read More
Third addition to our “Spotted on the street” section after “The Double-Breasted Guy” Louis and the Balenciaga Girl Anne-Louise is the “Cats are superior” guy Matthieu. He lives in a world where mainstream is the cholera and electro is the food and I wouldn’t say it’s a wrong idea. Far from that. Again, remember that if you want to share the list of your 10 essentials, just send it out with a clean pic of you to firstname.lastname@example.org and we will be glad to publish it! A few months ago, HME published an article on Baxter of California, a company that provides top-notch men’s grooming products. Included were a full range of traditional but utterly luxurious wet shaving products complete with the badger and straight razor identical to those used by my grandpa or his neighborhood barber. Unfortunately, no one seems to find time to sit back in that creaky leather chair and relax as the bristles on the brush lather the foam onto their face. Instead, today’s man has sold himself short: trading in the old kit for an electric razor that never seems to produce a close enough shave, or the over-advertised quintuple blade razors, combined with the cheap foam that will do everything to your skin but protect it from irritation.
We live in an era where our female counterparts can pull off a complete outfit made of what are essentially masculine garments and still be perceived as vanguards. We men now have to share our blazers, tuxedos and monk shoes; all accessorized with our favorite mechanical watches and neckties. Meanwhile, they have managed to keep their side of the wardrobe exclusive. (And for the better!). The vast majority of grooming products/practices have been completely stripped of their masculinity. Nowadays, there even exists a word –metrosexual- to describe us men who give importance to our appearance.
But here is something that we can keep for ourselves, all the while keeping our cool about our looks. Also significant, this ritual which has been frozen in time by great Hollywood scenes, pertains only to our sex. So just sit back and enjoy as we re-discover an art that our grandpas and their fathers mastered so well: The Art of Shaving.
All I have to say for now folks is, toss out your pathetic ten blade razor and cheap shaving gel, dig out an authentic badger brush and a double-edged safety razor and stay tuned for next week. I will be bringing to you a choice of the best products out there for shaving the old-fashioned way. And don’t dare tell me the old way is time-consuming, you just lack shaving dexterity!
This summer, few options are sexier than a high-waisted denim short. Especially when it’s cut rather short ! The offerings are quite numerous but the best deals are the vintage shorts found in vintage shops. Otherwise you can still find some pretty cool among the ones listed after the break ! Valentino, Sandro or Michael Kors are great alternatives to the old-school Levi’s or Calvin Klein.Read More
