Interview with Danish designer Asger Juel Larsen

We are proud to announce you that we have been experiencing the hustle and bustle of seething Copenhagen for the 2012 Fashion Week ending tonight. Besides, we have chosen to introduce you to Asger Juel Larsen, one of the most crazy dazzling Danish designers after attending his SS 2013 runaway show as VIP guests on Friday. Utterly avantgarde and audacious, Asger’s work is no more than a rule breaking reinvention of modern menswear. His designs are an intoxicating medley of the past and future, taking inspiration from historical events and fusing it into an industrial and futuristic sci-fi sphere. Asger was really busy after the show but I had a chance to ask him a few questions since he was greatly available and relaxed.

Thus, I’d like to thank you for granting us with this interview. Very few people we asked seem to be available. So thank you! Let’s begin with some serious (boring but always interesting) questions about you and your brand.

Good afternoon Asger, your show has just ended a couple of minutes ago, how are you doing at the moment?

You know with that kind of shows it’s always so much organization before. It’s like… It’s takes time, takes time, takes time for only ten minutes, that’s the funny thing with fashion…

Where does your inspiration come from ?

This inspiration, for example, came from French legends like in Haiti back in the days, like those vodoo men, specific artists in Haiti who does sculptures out of like the rest of the earthquake like basically the post of… real scrolls and pants or computer screens or whatever pieces pulled altogether. My friend is actually inspired by this guy Andre Eugene and I am going to Haiti to shoot the look of it actually in a couple of weeks so it’s gonna be really dramatic I think. I am really excited about it !

Could you describe the Asger Juel Larsen guy in a few words? Who is he?

He is a man! He is a man with a big torso, chested up… he has sex appeal!

As we once again saw today, your work is often synonymous with experimentation with the use of alternative materials such as leather, PVC, rubber cords etc. Is this the way you consider fashion ?

You know fashion is so many things. My thing I don’t like tendences. I do whatever I want really. You know I take inspiration from something and it’s always something out I used to play with when I was little on my youth and then… I go from that. Every season is competing new for me and I don’t care if red is in the flight, if there is enough yellow… I do whatever if you like.

Then, let’s move to more informal and easier questions !

Macdonald’s or Noma?

Oh! (laughs)… It really depends on my mood… I really like Mc Donald’s when I’m stressed but if could have Noma everyday I’ll do it !

 Raw or Simons?

I’m doing a party at Simons tonight! But I probably use Bodega normally like a pub; I’ll go to a pub.

Could you give us your favorite place or your hotspots in Copenhagen…

… but you have to come to my party tonight with dinner and free flood (laughs) !

A crazy thing to do in Copenhagen by night?

Go to Christiania on Sunday if you’re still there. I think you know what Christiania is… At 6 o’clock they have this live session like most of the hippie shows in the 70’s. They would come in with live jam, it’s the best! It’s from 6 to 9 or 12 on Sunday, it’s just amazing. You will laugh for 6 hours. You will just sit and laugh. I’ll go there. Definitely!
