Hype Means Everything

Sid Mashburn Crew | Top 5 Best Dressed Men on Earth

Okay, I know putting ex-aequos in a top 5 is cheating. But it’s actually pretty natural to include all the Sid Mashburn crew here for their own styles are very similar. It’s what I call sprezzatura : a certain nonchalance, so as to conceal all art and make whatever one does or says appear to be without effort and almost without any thought about it. They all look like it’s easy to be that good looking. That effortless. That handsome. Like if there was a receipt. These guys can turn a blue jean into a sartorial peace. They wear the best shirts. Wear the best shoes, pants, ties. Just like it’s easy to have them all. They are one of my strongest style inspiration. I actually buy shirts thinking about them. The crucial test is “Would they wear it ?”.

“My look is kind of an amalgam of different things: European, preppy, southern. Preppy is oftentimes pejorative, but if you really boil it down, it’s nothing more than classic clothes—a pair of khaki pants, a Shetland sweater. The best of European style is a man who dresses up for special occasions but knows how to dress casually. And then down south, there’s sort of a casualness to everything but also a love for color that you don’t see in the Northeast. At the store, I’m just taking the best parts of what I’ve seen. Some guys are going to think it’s too traditional, and some that it’s too fashionable. I think that’s a good place to be.” — Sid Mashburn
